MEDDIC is the most renowned Sales Qualification Methodology, applicable to any complex Enterprise Sales Process. MEDDIC may be referred to as the MEDDIC CHECKLIST, MEDDICC, or MEDDPICC®. This page explains why and how to get MEDDIC Certified™.

MEDDIC & MEDDPICC® are the courses, slides, books and other educational materials that were published and made available online by Darius Lahoutifard and MEDDIC Academy for the first time in the period of 2013-2017. They are results of the Sales and Qualification techniques and best practices that were initially developed at PTC (aka Parametric Technology Corp.) during the 90s, in a different way. PTC is a software company known for having built one of the strongest sales cultures in the context of Enterprise Software (now SaaS). The company had over 40 quarters of continuous growth during the 90s. The initial Global Sales Management team at PTC developed different elements of MEDDIC in the field. That initial team of sales managers in the early 90s, composed of a dozen of trailblazers, are the creators of MEDDIC. Later, PTC training managers at the headquarters in Boston were asked to put together the best practices in the field. They did so in a formal practice course for new hires and gave it a name: MEDDIC. You can learn more here.

MEDDIC ACADEMY’s founder, Darius Lahoutifard, was a member of that initial international sales leadership team at PTC. He took PTC Southern Europe from $4M to $27M in 3 years, beating the main competitor, DASSAULT Systemes (NYSE Euronext: DSY), in their own fiefdom (France). He naturally contributed to the elaboration of MEDDIC and later practiced it in his career, including his sales leadership roles at THINK3 and ORACLE, as well as his own startups.

2. Full MEDDPICC® Certification Course

  • Duration: ~2-3 hours, as reported by users.
  • Focus: All MEDDPICC® elements (including Metrics, Champion, Economic Buyer, etc.).
  • Test: self-paced quiz
  • Outcome: Learn in-depth definition of the elements of MEDDPICC. Popular course for job seekers. A Certificate of Completion is issued at the end.

3. Advanced MEDDPICC® Certification Course

  • Audience: Experienced sellers and managers familiar with the basics.
  • Format: Self-paced eLearning.
  • Duration: ~4-5 hours, as reported by users.
  • Focus: Advanced deal strategies, execution tactics, and real-life application.
  • Test: self-paced quiz
  • Outcome: Our best selling course, and the one ordered by all Enterprise customers for their sales teams. Beyond the definition, it provides how-tos, email templates, Scoring spreadsheet for deal assessment and more. A Certificate of Completion is issued at the end.

4. MEDDPICC® Certification for Managers

  • Audience: Sales Managers and Leaders.
  • Format: Self-paced eLearning.
  • Duration: ~6-7 hours, as reported by users.
  • Focus: Coaching reps, customizing sales process, deal inspection using MEDDPICC®.
  • Test: self-paced quiz
  • Outcome: Manager-level certification; provides tools for the sales managers to take over the teams coaching after the initial training delivered by MEDDIC Academy and keep the learning and maintain the practice. A Certificate of Completion is issued at the end.

5. Certified MEDDPICC® Trainer Program

  • Audience: Internal enablement leaders (and external trainers under conditions).
  • Format: Self-paced eLearning + time-measured written exam + oral exam
  • Duration: ~10 hours
  • Focus: Mastery of the methodology, facilitation skills, coaching reps, customizing sales process, deal inspection using MEDDPICC®. Licensing requirements for external trainers.
  • Test: self-paced quiz + time-measured written exam + oral exam
  • Outcome: Become a MEDDIC & MEDDPICC® Certified Trainer.

6. Live In-person or Virtual Workshop

  • Audience: All sales, including AEs, AMs, SEs, CSMs, VPs, SalesOps, Enablement, etc.
  • Format: Instructor-led, live. Either in-person or virtual.
  • Duration: ~4 hours (7-8 hours when delivered together with Deal Inspection)
  • Focus: Customization of the framework to the company’s products and services. (application to a few real life opportunities, when delivered together with Deal Inspection)
  • Outcome: Learn, build and document ready-made questions to ask clients. Define the agenda and practical details of sales meetings: Discovery, Demo, POC/POV, Economic Buyer meeting, etc. Create and take away the MEDDPICC® Sales Playbook. 7. Infinite Sales® Leadership

  • Audience: Sales Directors, VPs, CROs, CEOs
  • Format: Self-paced eLearning

  • Focus: Building and developing sales teams in competitive markets, regardless of the sales framework

Why should sales professionals be certified in MEDDIC?

The power of MEDDIC is in EXECUTION. Taking a course or reading a book can expose you to the concept. However, until you put these concepts into practice, you don’t have command of them.
The MEDDIC certification provides a way to assess and validate your Executive Knowledge of the MEDDIC approach.
The MEDDIC certification also allows you to demonstrate your competency in this practice for employers and others.

Why should employers hire MEDDIC certified™ sales professionals?

The MEDDIC certification is a credential that signifies that someone truly understands and can apply MEDDIC in real-world scenarios. In an interview, a candidate can talk about her or his knowledge of MEDDIC, but the MEDDIC certification provides third-party validation of this knowledge.

What program do I need to be certified as a MEDDIC or MEDDPICC trainer?

MEDDIC Academy’s MEDDPICC® For Trainers is at this point the only program that allows you to get MEDDIC certified as a trainer.
It is very important to note that taking the course and understanding 100% of the course will not guarantee your successful certification. You need field sales experience. Since it’s called certification, some people compare MEDDIC Certification to Microsoft Technical certification or even certifications such as CSM or PMP (Project Management Professional). The huge difference with MEDDIC Certification is that in those cases, anyone can take courses, and then take the exams and get certified. It’s very different in Sales though. You need to know how to execute. MEDDIC Certification exam checks not just your knowledge of the concept but also, through case studies, your experience. It’s very hard to pass the exams successfully, just with the courses and without several years of Enterprise Field Sales experience.

What are the competencies assessed in the certification process to become a trainer?

The certification exam and interview will assess your ability to:
Integrate MEDDIC into an existing sales campaign.
Ask MEDDIC questions when interacting with prospects.
Identify and use of metrics as part of the sales conversation.
Recognize, get access to and effectively communicate with the economic buyer in a sales campaign.
Understand the customer’s decision criteria to either drop the opportunity or focus on the right subjects to close the deal.
Seek to understand the decision process to successfully navigate sales cycle
Discover and use customer pain points to qualify and focus on.
Identify, develop and test champions to secure a favorable decision.

How long does MEDDIC Certification stay valid?

The certification is permanent. It’s a one-time qualification. You do not need to renew your certification or stay subscribed.

How can I prove my certification and advertise it?

Once you have successfully completed a program, you will be granted a verifiable digital certificate, permanently hosted on our servers, that you can share with employers and others. You can access your certificates from your account dashboard.
